Whangamata Coastguard volunteers manned the radio for 156 hours, handling 2610 calls.
The operators are grateful that most boats now use their call signs. This allows the vessel to be uniquely identified as many names are duplicated numerous times.
Rescue vessel G J Gardner Rescue was called out 9 times in January, with 1 total of 102 man-hours spent by volunteer crew members
Whangamata Coastguard still needs more volunteers both for the boat crew and radio operators.
